What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is a self-defense system developed for the military in Isreal that consists of a wide combination of techniques sourced from Aikido, boxing, judo and wrestling along with realistic fight training. Krav Maga is known for its focus on real-world situations and its extremely efficient and brutal counter attacks. It was derived from street fighting skills developed by Hungarian-Israeli martial artist Imi Lichtenfeld, who made use of his training as a boxer and wrestler as a means of defending the Jewish quarter against fascist groups in the mid-to-late 1930s. In the late 1940s, following his immigration to Israel, he began to provide lessons on combat training to what was to become the IDF, who went on to develop the system that became known as Krav Maga. It has since been refined for civilian, police and military applications.

Krav Maga has a philosophy emphasizing threat neutralization, simultaneous defensive and offensive maneuvers, and aggression. Krav Maga has been used mainly by the Israeli Defense Forces, special units, reconnaissance brigades, regular infantry brigades, and several closely related variations have been developed and adopted by law enforcement and intelligence organizations.

What is Children’s Self Defense

Our system of Self-Defense that we teach to our children is a hybrid system. The core and base of the system is original Japanese Ju-jitsu, which is augmented by three additional core martial arts.

Karate - Karate teaches the kids all of their kicks, strikes and blocks.

Judo - Judo is close combat that teaches the kids how to sweep, throw and trip their opponent by getting them off balance and taking advantage of that. It also shows them how to get thrown and how to break their fall for safety.

Aikido - Aikido consists of joint manipulations to stop an attacker and bring them down to the ground without hitting. This is where our self-defense series and basics come from.

What makes our system a hybrid system, is the added skills of boxing, wrestling, Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This makes our system a full and more well rounded system. The children will always be confident on the ground, standing, getting grabbed or any other attack someone may think of.

The reason I chose to put boxing into the curriculum is because of its simplicity. Working on the fundamentals of footwork, head movement and variety of punches gets the students comfortable on their feet and moving with a partner. It is also a great workout that the kids love.

Krav Maga has the easiest and best means of self-defense in the world. The way it blends and compliments the other skills, is what made it a no-brainer to add into the system.

Wrestling is something I was never into until I started to train Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Then I realized just how important it is to not only learn the basics of taking someone down, but also how to defend a takedown. The fundamentals of wrestling is fun, easy to learn and a very important part of their martial arts training.

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Wrestling compliment each other so well. Both showing how to control someone to the ground and then maintain control once on the ground. Showing the kids how to control their weight, where to put their weight and how to move, will give them positioning over another person and put them in the right spot for simple submissions.

What is MuayThai?

Muay Thai is a full contact sport of Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This physical and mental martial art is also known as "the art of eight limbs" because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and the shins. When that is combined with having good physical preparation, that is what makes a Muay Thai fighter very efficient. Muay Thai became widespread internationally in the twentieth century, when practitioners defeated notable practitioners of other martial arts. Today, Muay Thai is a global sport with many leagues and with many different type of styles depending on what country it was practiced in.
